Inspiration

So much sharing what inspires us goes along with the game as an artist. Here goes.

  1. Beauty. Just good things and good acts by regular people. People who have character and not just popularity. I know a lot of artists become activists and such, but I do not get inspiration from political or social problems. It’s so overwhelming. My husband and I intentionally try to help on a personal and local community level, but this never makes me feel like creating. It distracts me from creating.

  2. Productivity of Other Artists. At one time I had a studio space in downtown Greensboro NC alongside 12 or so other artists. I didn’t need to interact with them much, but just knowing they were nearby in their studios creating was such a great push for me. I miss that so much! Also, the prolificity of some of my artist friends and those I follow on the socials helps me to focus and be more productive.

  3. Nature. I didn’t realize how much I missed this inspiration when living in a suburban setting. Just a hike or looking out my windows at the Greenbrier River and surrounding mountains (lucky me!) gets creativity flowing. I’m just figuring out why this is.

  4. Organization and a “Fresh Studio.” Nothing like all the supplies lined up neatly in their place. I trash my studio with every painting and then clean it up and set if fresh for starting a new piece. Cleaning the studio defeats my creative block almost every time.

  5. Pintrest. Just saving images with aesthetics I like and going back and browsing through them can spark ideas.

  6. New Art Supplies. Hahahaha. Good way to go broke.
